We are putting a new roof on the old mansion Cal Doctor in Alella. Many beams had to be replaced, others could be saved and treated for woodworm. On top of the beams we are building a roof which consists of a sandwich of wooden boards and insulation, to allow for the geometry of the old house, which is obviously not a perfect rectangle. In this project we combine modern and mediterranean design with our wish to conserve traditional elements of a Catalan house; for this reason we also preserve the traditional vaulted ceilings downstairs and the old arches, among other things. At the same time we introduce contemporary elements which will allow the house to be used in the 21st century.
